History of CCART
Viola Herring and Alice White envisioned a retired teachers’ group for Clear Creek. The two traveled to LaPorte to gain information on starting their own group. Ardis Williams, Elsie Stevenson, Doris Shoening and Lotha Sollick then met at Alice’s house to plan and discuss the creation of the retired teachers’ organization. They decided to invite new retirees to coffee at the League City Bank. The group met monthly and grew quickly. From there the Clear Creek Association began to take shape. The name came about because that was who the founders were, teachers who had retired from Clear Creek ISD. CCART was founded in 1986 and has far surpassed what the founding members dreamed it would become. Alice White became the first CCART President in 1986.
CCART is in District 4 of Texas Retired Teachers Association. NASA is located in Clear Creek ISD. Many retired teachers have worked at NASA as volunteers working with school groups who visit there. Many astronauts are our neighbors and have children who attend Clear Creek ISD schools. CCART is largely made up of Clear Creek ISD teachers. Retired teachers from Friendswood, Dickinson, Santa Fe, and Texas City are also members.
CCART has a strong Forever Book Campaign. Each month money is collected, and donated adult books are sold in order to raise money for this project. Our members are generous and at least two schools benefit each month. During the 2021-2022 school year we have donated 1100 books to Title 1 Schools. CCART also has amazing retired teachers who volunteer thousands of hours. CCART works closely with our local legislators. Each year we invited them to a meeting to share information with us and join us in a meal. Many members head for Austin each year to show the colors of retired teachers.
As a very welcoming and laid-back group, CCART members are always willing to give their time and talent.
